Overview

Walmart’s pickup towers are the kiosks inside stores where customers collect online orders by scanning a barcode. The interface has to work quickly for everyone who walks up to it.

My role

At Walmart Labs, I redesigned and built the tower’s user interface in React and TypeScript: real-time order tracking, clear progress indicators, multi-language support, accessibility features, error handling and quick scanning, integrated with the tower’s existing systems.

Outcome

The new interface saved more than $1 million a year in labor costs and an estimated 3.65 million customer hours.
