Sumo is Walmart's internal notifications platform with a console interface that enables app teams to view and configure their notification settings. The platform serves a critical role in delivering emergency alerts to stores for violent threats, severe weather, and COVID exposures.

Sumo is Walmart’s internal notifications platform. It delivers alerts to stores, including emergency alerts for violent threats, severe weather and COVID exposures, so it has to be fast and reliable.
My role
At Walmart Labs, I worked on the Sumo Console, where app teams view and configure their notification settings, built with React and Redux on Node.js, RESTful APIs and WebSockets. It covers real-time notification management, emergency alert configuration, permissions for different teams and roles, and notification history and analytics.
Outcome
The platform reaches more than 4,000 stores, sends over 50,000 notifications a day and has more than 80,000 daily users.
